IMMIGRATION

The important thing to know about the immigrant, is, why are they coming here to America?  Do you intend to live and work in our country for the rest of your life, to become fully Americanized and die here; or just to get better wages to send home and eventually leave here to remain and die in your native country.

As we all know this country was built by immigrants and that is OK.  However our govern-ment has now reached the point where it feels it must entice people to come and cater to there every wish.   Only those who have entered legally should be allowed to stay.    All others (if needed) could be issued a work permit for an exact amount of time.   When that work permit has expired; they should voluntarily leave the country and surrender the work permit.  Any that do, would be eligible for papers to immigrate at a later date.  Any that does not leave voluntarily and surrender the work permits freely would never be allowed in again.

This brings up the point; what should be done with those entering illegally?  As in all legal issues those who step outside the law should return more to society than their action has cost society.  So a lot would depend on many factors.  Such has how difficult was it to find them, convict them and did they co-operate during the process.   Another factor to consider is whether while here, did they work at a job which was needed by another legal immigrant or one of our citizens.  If they did their wages should be confiscated.  Or at least all money and possessions they have at the time of being caught, should stay within America.  Keep in mind that all which they have earned or garnered was done so illegally.

In short, anyone immigrating to America should come with the idea that they will become American by learning our laws, our language, our ways; and with the intent to not only improve their lot in life but to improve America.  Briefly we should have no Mexican Americans, African Americans etc.  Not that they need to forget their place of birth nor, to stop honoring their country of birth.  However it is important for both them and America, that they build upon, and not tear down nor divide what was here when they came.   Put another way they should become American Mexicans or American Africans.  It is important for all to recognize that America comes first.

We should welcome them with open arms and continue to help them assimilate into our lifestyle.  But we should never allow them to turn us into what their country was, for if we do, they will have only destroyed what they came here for.  America needs to decide what our standards, our beliefs and our morals are and then make everyone (including current citizens live by those standards.
