"The Whole Picture" The following topics will be covered in future articles. Each may require more than one article and or expand into side subjects. However you will have an idea as to what will be covered and the general direction that each will take. 1-TAXATION: It needs to be simplified, reduced, uniform and above all it must be understood by those who are paying the tax. Taxes definitely should not be used as a whip or punishment to some while being used as an award to others. It should only cover the cost of a minimal government and must not be used to manipulate the economy. 2- JUDICIAL: Even more than taxes, we must simplify our judicial system. To quote James Madison "It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their choice if the laws be so voluminous that they can not be read, or so incoherent that they can not be understood, or if they are appealed or revised before they are promulgated or, under go such incessant changes that no man who knows what the law is today, can guess what it will be tomorrow”. Now I ask you, are we not there today? The correct revision to our legal system would reduce taxes and crime, which would be two giant steps toward improving our society. Perhaps some lawyer will correct me but I believe, this is the only branch of our government which does not have a check and balance system to monitor its power. This is not to imply that the other branches do not need improving, but at least they do have some form of control over them. The judicial system must be made uniform in its application, swift in its determination and tough enough to discourage crime. 3- CRIME: No one will argue (well maybe a lawyer or two) that crime needs to be reduced and made less profitable for the criminal. Let's face it, there is profit in crime or they would not be doing it. When number two above has been corrected, we will have taken a long stride towards our goal, which is a safer society. Then all we need to do is make the criminal repay society for the damages that he has caused. By this method each and everyone of them would have to weigh the benefits against the penalties and when the penalties outweigh the benefits, Walla crime does not pay. When crime no longer pays, there will be less crime. More emphasis should be placed on the citizen's and the victim's rights and less on the criminal's rights. 4- POLITICS: As now practiced, is a lucrative professional career. I've heard for years that we need to increase their salaries to draw more qualified people into this field. Hogwash, that is like taking a rotten apple off of the grocer's shelf and paying him double the price for it. I can assure you that the apple will be just as rotten. It has been my experience that money does not necessarily buy quality and especially so in humans. Let's return to the non professional statesman, who does the duty as an obligation to serve his country for a few years; then returns to society to live under the laws they made. Today's politicians have become so inbred they find it very difficult, to cope with anything novel. I submit for your consideration, it was the most novel thinking, up to that time, which started our great country. The same thing is happening in our industry and for the same reasons. The people who are in power now control enough votes to be either re-elected or to see that someone who thinks as they do are elected. Keep in mind that all of them are human and prone to making mistakes and that power; does not remove this feature from any of us. Also it is said and proven true {Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely}. 5- MEDICAL: In spite of their high ideals and their oaths the medical field has without a doubt lost sight of their purpose. To serve mankind, not vice versa. Sure there are still a few that practice to help their fellow man but most and particularly the specialist are in it, to become rich and acquire large estates. Here again the current system measures a man's value by his material wealth and not his contributions to the betterment of mankind. 6- WELFARE: We all agree that the cost of welfare must be reduced. The largest savings can be achieved by reducing the cost of operating the system. Above all it needs to be distributed fairly and cover only the necessities of life and not luxuries. 7- SOCIAL SECURITY: This truly is the biggest farce ever perpetrated on the American citizen. It is actually a tax which the government immediately spends on other things; relying on increasing the tax in the future to cover future obligations. However we are morally obligated to fulfill our government's promises. Let's just renegotiate the outgo in an adult and reasonable manner so that the beast does not strangle us. We must recognize its evils and devise a way to save our selves and our children from them. It can be done without a great deal of trauma to anyone, if we do it as a gradual turn around. However the youth of our nation can not support the system as it now exists for any great length of time, nor should they be expected to do so. 8- EDUCATION: Our educational system continues to become more expensive and less efficient everyday. There have recently been some signs of improvement and we of course hope that they will continue. Here again, the system is so inbred that it needs to have a study done by one who is not totally immersed in education in order to get a new and better approach as to what is needed to turn it around. 9- CHURCH: Talk about a sacred cow. We really have one here. That does not mean that it can not be tackled and for that matter improved. It has been a long time since anyone has really pointed a finger at the Churches. For that reason alone we should have a long close look at what exactly does, constitute a Church. For one thing the Churches should get out of big business and for another it should be looking out for each one of Gods own and not so self serving. While these are all complex problems which have developed over many years, they can be corrected, if we all learn to pull together. We must have a voting revolution (to coin a phrase a Votealution) or we will surely have a shooting one later. The choice is ours to make, and we must decide soon. Keep in mind that we make our choices whether we act or not. If you choose not to get involved then you have chosen not to have a voting revolution. Which also means, you have chosen to leave; a burdensome, dishonest, nonfunctional and un-respected government as a heritage to your children and their children. They then will have to suffer thru a shooting revolution to correct that which we have created. At least a voting revolution would be physically painless and the benefits would be staggering. When we have proven to the world that man is capable of controlling his own destiny, I am sure that many will jump on the band wagon and thereby help to eliminate wars between nations. For many years I have felt that we are giving away, that which our fore fathers, our fathers and those of us who lived the great depression and fought WW„II have paid so dearly for. Though it may create some lean years, it is time that we revamp our thinking and our goals. We are leaving our children with a debt ridden nation, but if we can leave them with a high level of hope and a clear path to follow towards solvency, then we have left them with something far more valuable than material riches and the debt will then disappear. Hope and dreams are what mankind thrives on and is far more precious than material wealth. Let us strive for a system that gives that hope and dream to all of its citizens regardless of race, creed or color or heritage. Let me remind you that I do not see myself as a God but only human and as such, I am prone to making mistakes, just as you and every other human. Nor have I meant to imply that I alone, have all the answers. However I do feel that I look at and see things, in a little different light than the average person. Therefore you may find something in these articles, which will require a little study and thinking to fully understand. If so then I have accomplished at least a part of my goal, which was to stimulate some of you into thinking about a possible change in our society and how you could help to bring it about. I would like to get every American to thinking that there are choices to make and that by their inaction they are automatically making the wrong ones. I'll end this one by saying. THANKS FOR READING NOW ACT "LET'S GET OUT THERE AND DO IT" Just A. Pebble CLOSING THOUGHT: It is man's greed and not his needs; which has caused our problems both yesterday and today.
