"TAX THE WEALTH NOT WAGES"

In a previous article I mentioned that I would give the advantages of taxing one's wealth, instead of one's income and this is the article. There really are many advantages and I'm sure, that other people will find more advantages, than I, as an individual, can come up with. However to start the thinking caps going, I will give a few, WHICH I feel are pretty obvious, to anyone who attempts to think about this proposal a little.

Keep in mind that we are talking about everyone's wealth in any form. Also keep in mind that we are expecting everyone to pull their own load, in relation to their ability, in this our so called free society.  We can not afford to let the free loaders weigh the workers down to the point that we fail. Here again let me remind you that I feel we have free loaders on both the bottom and the top of our economic ladder. I also feel that it is a far larger shame, when one at the top, free loads, than it is when one at the bottom does. Why? Because the level of free loading per individual; is much higher at the upper level; and because, our society now accepts it as their due, even though they had the advantages to start with, in life and all too many have done nothing to earn their keep. Also those who are free loading at the lowest end of the scale are doing it for needs; while those at the upper end of the scale are doing it for wants and greed.  As we all know wants can never be satisfied, as soon as one is filled another pops up.

I have hinted at some of the advantages in prior articles but let me refresh your memory on those. To me it makes no difference of when the wealth was garnered. If you have acquired more than someone else then you should be willing to help support the system that allowed you to acquire that wealth. Just because you had a bad year, is no reason for you not to pull your fair share of the load. The advantage here is that everyone will contribute, according to their current ability and not according to their current income.

When wealth is taxed, the amount you pay can be a status symbol just as your large home, your yacht, fine paintings, or race horse etc. are now. It sounds strange today, but only because in our current society we are trained to be opposed to our government's taxation. Let me say again that we should not be opposed to taxation as that is the only way that our form of government can survive. We must convince everyone that it is right and proper for everyone to do his or her share. How much better would it be if we all did it, willingly?  When wealth is taxed, it would be more difficult to hide and if one was hiding any wealth, the pleasure of ownership, would be greatly reduced. Hence the temptation to hide it would be lessened.

When all wealth is taxed, the owner's of that wealth would be more likely to spend it on sensible and productive investments rather than on show pieces which bleed our system dry. Also this system will only work if we are diligent in prosecuting anyone caught cheating. But of course that is true with any system, and as mentioned above this one would make it easier to notice the cheaters.

When wealth is taxed, it would be more difficult to pass along that wealth, to succeeding generations (these are the free loaders at the top of the economic ladder mentioned above) which allows them to fuel inflation. I feel strongly that the easy money gained thru inheritance, has led to the high salaries of our so called entertainment people, whether it be in sports or arts or politics. You seldom see the generation that makes the money, spend it on such things. It is usually those who inherit the wealth that are willing to pay those high salaries. Perhaps they are in awe of the people that have this special ability and since they are so rich with no effort on their part, they feel those who have this special ability, should be rewarded. If you are the one who labors to earn it, you will be more careful in how it is spent. Easy money is more easily spent.

When the wealth is passed on, those who receive it would have to work to increase it, or gradually lose it thru taxes. I can hear some of you crying crocodile tears that the government shouldn't get it. Why not? After all the wealth was made from the sweat of its citizens brows so who else but the citizens should benefit. Remember the citizens are the government; especially under this new Votealution system when it flies.  If the new owner of this wealth, is not going to use the wealth in a productive manner then he or she should lose it to those, who had labored in the past to produce that wealth.  Early in this series of articles I stated that I am not God nor do I see myself as infallible.  So if you have a better way to handle inheritance please let me know what it is.  History has shown that passing it along the blood line is what has created the past Revolutions.

I can also hear the arguments, that taxing the wealth of individuals will discourage people from saving or investing. This argument has some merit and perhaps one of you may have an idea, on how to overcome this fault; if it truly exists. In the meantime, think about how the workers are becoming discouraged from losing a much higher percentage of their income at a continually escalating rate. I feel that the truly industrious individual, will still work & try hard to improve his and his family’s lifestyle, because with this system, costly and unfair competition (due to tax breaks) will be greatly reduced. Also the opportunities will be greater, for the nonproductive type of investment will not be as popular. Especially: if we operate in a near zero inflation atmosphere.

Taxing wealth will force investments into productive usages, for any wealth that does not produce wealth will not regenerate itself and eventually it will disappear. Without inflation, a non productive investment will be a burden rather than a blessing, when total wealth is taxed. It will also be much more obvious when an individual makes it on his or her own, which will give encouragement to others, to try harder. Or stated another way, it will give the common person hope and faith in the system, instead of the despair, the current system has generated.

Yes dear friends, dare to dream of the day when every man is your neighbor, when hope sings in every heart and when America is again ascending to new heights in the betterment of mankind.

IT CAN HAPPEN
